Veteran Events in Tallahassee, Inc has announced its 3rd annual Poker Run fundraiser, Vetfest III: The Jammie Run to be held August 11, 2012 with first out at 4:00 PM and last in at 8:00 PM. This year’s event will differ in many ways from the previous Vetfest Poker Runs.
For those not familiar with Poker Runs, you purchase a run card at the starting point, run cards for this event will be $ 10.00 each. You draw a card at each of the stops you go to. You can go directly to the end if you chose not to do the 65 mile run. And when I say run, I strongly suggest using a motorized vehicle of some sort. 65 miles is lot of distance to cover on foot, bicycle or horseback in 4 hours. On with our story:
1. Purchase a Run Card at the starting point. Run Cards are $ 10.00 each. The Run Card keeps track of what cards you have drawn or purchased at each of the stops along the run.
2. There are three stops along the Run plus a start and end point. At each stop, your Run Card entitles you to draw one card for your hand. If you don’t like the card you drew, you have the option of buying a replacement card for $1. You cannot play (or keep) both cards in your hand – you must play one or the other.
3. You do not have to visit all stops along the run, which is 65 miles. Entrants who go to all of the stops along the route will be allowed to draw a 6th card and play their best 5:

Start Point: Corner Pocket Sports Bar
#2: Veterans Memorial in Havana
#3: Moose Lodge in Quincy
#4: Vietnam Memorial in Tallahassee
End Point: - Shuckers Oyster Bar on the North end of Lake Jackson
Because it is August and HOT!, we decided to start and end the run much later than conventional poker runs, Registration will open at 3:30 PM, with the first person leaving at 4:00PM. You must be at Shucker’s by 8:00PM as no cards will be accepted after 8:15PM. Your $ 10.00 Run Card also buys you a meal that is provided by Shucker’s, usually pulled pork sandwiches with fixins.
The winning hand this year, as in the past, will pay $ 500.00 and the worst hand will pay $ 100.00, tie-breaker for winning hand is drawing high card, worst hand is drawing low card.
Now for the fun! The Best Jammies Contest. Prizes for best Jammies will be $ 75.00 for 1st, $ 50.00 for 2nd and $25.00 for 3rd. Jammies will be judged by the amount of crowd noise generated by each contestant. There will be a secure changing area for those who do not wish to ride in thier Jammies.
There will also be numerous door prizes and a 50/50 drawing for those who wish to participate.
